The founding members gathered in the summer of 1980 for the first organizational meeting at The Florida Bar's old education building. No list of the founders exists, but a February 1981 membership list exists and we have adopted the members on that list as our founding members.  They are listed below. 

The founders ultimately decided on the name, wrote a constitution and by-laws, and determined that its purposes would be:

(1) to promote the status of women in the legal community; and

(2) to create, improve, and maintain supportive networks among women in the legal profession through mutual cooperation, respect, and good friendship.

These purposes are now included in TWL's Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.
